Hinchcliffe Collection: Photographs of Burma. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Red cloth bound album, in poor condition with spine and boards detached, measuring 282 x 365 mm and containing 123 pasted in with handwritten captions in ink beneath. The majority of the photographs are snapshots recording the career of Henry C. Hinchcliffe as a member of the forest staff of the teak forests merchants Steel Brothers of Rangoon. Subjects include company bungalows, portraits of friends and colleagues, topographical views and village scenes in Upper Burma, and logging activities. There are also a few professionally taken groups and views in the album. A number of the prints are also duplicated in Photo 1038/2-3, many of which were taken by Hinchcliffe's colleague E. H. Quinn. Many of the photographs in this album are probably also Quinn's work.
