Reproduced in W.S.A. Lockhart and R.G. Woodthorpe, 'The Gilgit Mission, 1885-86' (Eyre and Spottiswoode, London, 1889), facing p. 284, there captioned, 'Bahadur Khan, Raa of Astor, and sons': 'On July 18th the party reached Astor (7,700), and halted 19th and 20th. Here the Ra of Astor was introduced, who was afterwards to be of service. A handsome old man of 70, the Ra, by name Bahadur Khan, was very cordial to the British officers, but was outspoken as regarded his dislike of Kashmir rule. He did all he could to entertain his visitors, and collected the young men of the neighbourhood for a great polo match, in which he himself rode harder and played better than anyone else.'
