Scope & Content:: Full-leather bound album measuring 660x490mm and containing 44 albumen prints, generally in good condition, but many with overall spotting. The album is lavishly bound with inlaid leather decoration in red and green and with the following inscription stamped in gilt on the front cover: 'Gift made by H.I.M. the Sultan Abdul-Hamid II. To the Library of the British Museum London 1893'. The same inscription, in Turkish, is found on the back cover. The prints themselves are laid down on the page within a decorative border, with some captions in English and Turkish and some in French and Turkish. Photographs show interior and exterior views of the Admiralty, factories and shops at the Imperial Naval Arsenal in Kasimpasa, views of the Galata Tower, the Galata and Unkapani Bridges, on the Golden Horn. Exteriors of the Naval Academy and the Naval Hospital. View of the Aynali Kavak Pavillion.
