A photograph, from the ‘Album of Indian Views’, of the Church of St John-in-the-Wilderness, Nainital taken by John Edward Saché in the 1860s. View from the wooded hillside looking down onto the church. The Church of St John-in-the-Wilderness was built in 1846 in the Gothic style and has a dark-coloured timber roof and stained glass windows. The area is vulnerable to landslides with a serious one occurring in September 1880, the church contains a memorial to the victims of that landslip.
