Half-leather and red buckram bound album, measuring 415x302mm, stamped 'Hongkong and Canton 1880-1890' in gold on front cover, containing 68 albumen prints of views in Hong Kong and Canton. A few of the views towards the end of the album date from after 1890 and were probably added after the bulk of the album had been compiled. The contents of the album can be broken down as follows:
Prints 1-31 Views of Hong Kong, 1880s, including harbour scenes, architecture and a series of views of the Sytram Waterworks. With handwritten captions in ink, and some additional notes identifying specific buildings and roads.
Prints 32-50 Views of Canton, 1880s, with letterpress caption labels pasted beneath the prints.
Prints 51-59 Small format views of Hong Kong, including a series fo prints showing damage caused by the storm of 3 December 1891.
Prints 60-62 Views of Hong Kong, c. 1895, with handwritten captions.
Prints 63-67 Views of the Gap Rock Lighthouse, c. 1893.
Print 68 Portrait study of a Chinese man carrying wood.
