Photograph album bound in soft imitation leather, measuring 200 x 285 mm, containing 106 prints mounted on corner hinges, the majority uncaptioned. The album contains a mix of older and more material. On each verso leaf is mounted a large-size printing-out paper print of Zanzibar scenes dating from the 1890s (including a series of views of the British naval bombardment of Zanzibar in August 1896). On the recto pages are up to four small gelatin silver prints of Zanzibar scenes.
These photographs form part of the collection of Denis Hayes Crofton, Indian Civil Service, and his father Richard Hayes Crofton, Colonial Civil Service, Hong Kong and Zanzibar.
