Sam Browne Collection (General Sir Samuel James Browne): Photograph album of General Sir Samuel James Browne. Photographer(s): Wood, Henry
- Scope & Content:
-
Photograph album measuring 348 x 280 mm, lacking covers, containing 61 albumen prints and one painted silhouette portrait, with a further two loose prints and a pen-and-ink caricature inserted. The last page of the album contains a newspaper cutting, an invitation card and a menu relating to a banquet at St James' Palace, given by the Prince of Wales on 20 July 1897. The majority of photographs in the album are views of the Kaghan district and Abbottabad, which appear to be the work of the British Army officer Henry Wood: one photograph at least (print 42) is signed and dated in the negative by Wood and the other images in the series appear to have been taken on the same journey. Other photographs include portrait of Browne and his wife and views of houses at Abbottabad and Peshawar. There are also a few Scottish views. Much brighter copies of many of the photographs attributed to Wood in this album can be found in APAC Photo 752/12 (MacNabb Collection).
