Black post-bound photograph album measuring 248 x 355 mm, with decorative design of two dragons and a Chinese junk embossed on the upper board. The front pastedown of the album is inscribed 'C. A. Day. H. M. S. Birmingham, China Station. Started 29th Mar. 1939,' and the volume contains 169 captioned prints, showing activities on board ship and a mixture of amateur and commercially produced views of locations including Hong Kong, Peking (Beijing), Wei Hai Wei, Shanghai and Singapore. A few photographs have been removed by the ship's censor and a typescript note at the end of the album records that the remainder have been examined and passed. A note in Day's hand records that the volume was completed on 29 February 1940.
