'Urgyen Dhargye, a nagpa (tantric practitioner), widely respected as a healer and exorcist, is treating a young child who is suffering from fits. He is blowing a mantra over the face of the child. Spiti has high infant mortality rates and tuberculosis is widespread. Villagers consult nagpas, oracles, lamas and astrologers for help with a variety of decisions and problems' (Patrick Sutherland).
