'Ploughed fields below Key. Most of the households in the village own fields, which are irrigated with water melting from the snow and ice on the surrounding peaks. The staple crop is barley, which will ripen here at 14,000 feet, but the traditional Spiti pea, mustard and new crops like garden peas and potatoes are also grown' (Patrick Sutherland).
