Architectural Views of Calcutta. Photographer(s): Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
A collection of 23 albumen prints mounted on loose album leaves, with handwritten captions in ink beneath each image. All the photographs are unsigned, apart from print 5, by W. G. Stretton. The series comprises a selection of views of European domestic houses, official and commercial buildings, and six views of merchants' mansions built in European style by wealthy Bengalis, mainly memebers of the Mullick family.
The photographs were purchased with the album of architectural subjects at Photo 1081/1, and were evidently collected or commissioned by someone with a professional interest in architecture.
