Bailey Collection: 'Tibet 1903-4. F.M.B. [volume] III.' Photographer(s): Bailey, Frederick Marshman
- Scope & Content:
-
Red half-leather bound album measuring 370x273mm, containing snapshots mostly mounted four to a page, with captions written in pencil beneath. The binding is weak, with a few pages detached from their linen hinges. The album continues the documentation of the Younghusband Mission to Tibet from Photo 1083/13, and covers the period from the crossing of the Tsang-po (Brahmaputra) at Chaksam on 25-26 July 1904, through the signing of the Anglo-Tibetan Treaty at Lhasa on 7 September 1904 and part of the march back to India. The latest dated photograph is 27 September 1904 (at Nagartse). There are also a few photographs outside this chronological sequence (for instance, prints 483-93, which show the action at Naini on 26 June).
