Bailey Collection: Younghusband Mission to Tibet, vol. 3. Photographer(s): Bailey, Frederick Marshman
- Scope & Content:
-
Black exercise book measuring 175x225mm, containing prints mounted either two to a page, with brief pencilled captions beneath, numbered 295-388 (in continuation from Mss Eur F157/467). Prints 343-346 and 383 have been extracted from the volume. This album is one of four uniform exercise books (Mss Eur F157/466-469) containing photographs recording the Younghusband Mission to Tibet. The numbering of the prints runs in one sequence through the four volumes; the documentation then continues in a further seven Kodak albums (Mss Eur F157/470-476). Taken together, these eleven volumes comprise a complete record from the departure of the 32nd Sikh Pioneers from Ambala in 1903 to the signing of the Anglo-Tibetan Treaty in Lhasa in September 1904. All the photographs appear to be duplicated in other parts of the collection, where they have been listed and indexed in detail (see Mss Eur F157/456-460).
