Contents: A portable physician's folding almanac consisting of a calendar, tables and diagrams:

f. 9r: Diagram of a Zodiac man with animals;
f. 9v: Explanation of the calendar;
f. 10r: Diagram of lunar and solar eclipses;
f. 11r: Table of moveable feasts;
f. 11v: Astronomical table;
f. 12r: Diagram of Vein Man ('Homo Venarum');
f. 12v: Lunar table.
Decoration: Two pen diagrams: Zodiac man and Vein man. Diagram of eclipses in red, blue and brown. KL initials and small initials in blue. Tables in red and brown.

Dimensions: 310 x 215 mm (160 x 60 mm).
Foliation: ff. 7 (folded leaves).
Script: Gothic.
Binding: Folded separate leaves, sewn together at the lower edges with two outer parchment covers to which triangular tabs are attached, containing holes with a cord threaded through them to attach to a girdle.

Provenance:
The Cotton collection was acquired by Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: see Colin G. C. Tite, The Early Records of Sir Robert Cotton’s Library: Formation, Cataloguing, Use (London: The British Library, 2003), pp. 212-13.
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, (Acts of Parliament: 12 and 13 William III, c. 7 of 1701); formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
