Group of five Newhaven fisherwomen seated around the minister James Fairbairn (1804-1879), himself seated at a small table piled with books. An unidentified elderly man stands behind and to the right of Fairbairn. See the note on this photograph in Stevenson (2002), p. 104, which dates the image to 18 July 1845 and identifies four of the women as Mrs Carnie Noble, Bessie Crombie, Mary Combe and Mrs Margaret Lyall.
