Haute-Égypte. Grand Temple de Dendérah (Teutyres). Hypèthre construit sur la Terrasse. Photographer: Du Camp, Maxime
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Architectural Photography
View looking along the terrace of the Temple of Hathor at Dendera, towards the figure standing against the columned façade to indicate scale. With addtional caption note: 'Ne contient que des cartouches vides. — Parâit dater des Antonins et avoir été dédié à Hathor.' Du Camp recorded his practice of using a figure to indicate scale in his 'Le Nil, Égypte et Nubie': '...Every time I visited a monument I had my photographic apparatus carried along and took with me one of my sailors, Hadji Ismael, an extremely handsome Nubian, whom I had climb up on the ruins which I wanted photograph. In this way I was always able to include a uniform scale of proportions...' (quoted and translated in Francis Steegmuller, 'Flaubert in Egypt' (Penguin Books, London, 1996), p. 101).
