View from the first court of the Temple of Amun, with the only surviving 'papyrus' column of the Nubian pharoah Taharqa, standing in the right foreground. This view looks eastwards, with the second pylon of the temple in the middleground and the great Hypostyle Hall beyond. An Egyptian figure stands among the rubble in the opening of the pylon as an indication of scale. With additional caption note: 'La cour des Bubastites, commencée par les rois de la XXVIe dynastie, achevée par les Ptolémées, détruite par le tremblement de terre de l'an 16 d'Auguste (an 27 avant J.-C.; 188e olympiade). Eusèbe, en parlant de ce tremblement de terre, dit: 'Thebæ Ægyptii usque ad solum dirutæ sunt.' La colonne demeurée debout porte sur son fût les cartouches de Teharaka (le Tehrak de la Bible), de Psammétique et de Ptolémée Philopator. Élévation 23m. Diamètre 2m 92c. Sur les chambranles de la porte, Ptolémée Physcon faisant des offrandes à toutes les divinitées adorées à Thèbes.'
