View looking towards a colonnade in the forecourt of the mortuary temple complex of Merenptah, son of Ramses II. With additional caption note: 'Palais construit par Ménephta !er; environné d'une enceinte ornée de propylônes par son fils Ramsès le Grand (Sésostris); consacré par le légende dédicatoire: L'aréoris puissant, ami de la vérité, seigneur de la région inférieure, le régulateur de l'Égypte, celui qui a frappé lese nations étrangères, l'épervier d'or soutien des armées, le plus grand des vainqueurs, le roi (Soleil directeur de la verité, approuvé de Phrè. — Le fils du soleil, l'aimé d'Ammon Ramsès) a éxécuté des travaux en l'honneur de son père Ammon-Ra, le roi des dieux, et embelli le palais de son père (le roi-soleil, stabilateur de justice, le fils du soleil Menephta Borei) (Griffon). Voici qu'ila fait élever...les propylônes du palais...et qu'il l'a entouré du murailles de briques construites à toujours; c'est ce qu'a exécuté le fils du soleil, l'aimé d'Ammon Ramsès.'
