Haute-Égypte. Temple d'Ombos. Photographer: Du Camp, Maxime
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Archaeological Photography
View of the massive columns and entablature (here seen half-buried in the sand) of the hypostyle hall of the double temple of Sobek and Haroeris at Kom Ombo. With additional caption note: 'Temple de Koùm-Ombou (ancienne Ombos). — Construit par les Ptolémées Épiphane, Philométor et Évergète II. — Dédié aux deux triades: Seveck-Ra — Hathor — Kons-Hor. Aroéri — Tsoménofré — Pnevtho.' Compare with a very similar study taken by James Douglas a decade later, at shelfmark 1786.b.33, volume 1, print 49, which indicates that Du Camp's view has been printed in reverse (compare also with Teynard's very similar view at 74/Cup.652.m.2, vol. 1, plate 79). There is certainly another example of Du Camp's work that has been printed in reverse in this collection: see plate 115.
