Study of prickly pear orchard and camels, Cairo. Photographer: Frith, Francis
- Scope & Content:
-
Inscription: Inscribed in the negative, 'Frith 150.'
Genre: Landscape Photography
Study of a group of baggage camels, posed in front of a large patch of prickly pear cactus. Of the camels, the writer remarks: 'That in the centre of the picture is one of the most satisfactory represenatations of a camel that we have seen, showing all the characteristics that are so difficult to preserve—the graceful bearing of an animal, every detail of whose appearance is rough and coarse—which have generally rendered it an almost hopeless object to the artist. Indeed, excepting Mr. Lewis, we do not know one modern artist who has not failed in attempting to draw a camel.'
