View of the monastery buildings at ki, clustered on a steep conical hill: 'July 16th. Marched to Kazé...About four miles from Khiebar was the monastery or Gonpa of Kee, the largest in Spiti. The monastery consists of some large public apartments and chapels on the summit of the hill, and a great number of separate residences or cells for the monks studded over the side below. The building is of stone and mud, occasionally a mass of rock in situ is worked into a wall...At this season there were not more than twenty resident monks, mostly old men, and only two or three could read; but in the winter the cells are all occupied — some eighty in number...'
