[Titlepage: group portrait of the Douglas family.] Photographer: Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Portrait Photography
Group portrait of three figures, seated at a small table on which stands a number of Egyptian artefacts. Seated centre is an elderly white haired man (Dr James Douglas), flanked on the left by his son (also James Douglas) and on the right by the latter's wife Naomi, reading a book. For a biographical note on the Douglas family, see collection introduction. The titlepage of volume 2 has a similar portrait, taken on the same occasion. These two photographs were probably taken some time after their return from Egypt, since the younger James Douglas is here seen heavily bearded: at the time of his marriage in 1860 he was clean-shaven, as he was during the trip to Egypt (see volume 2, print 34).
