Judgment scene. Photographer: Unknown
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Archaeological Photography
Close view of a wall painting of a judgement scene in the Temple of Hathor at Deir el-Medina: 'The scene, from which the Photograph has been taken, is sculptured on the west wall of a side chamber in the Temple of Dayr el Medeeneh at Thebes, and presents one of the best representations of a subject which is very often depicted on the sepulchral steles, on the mummy cases, and on the papyri found in the tombs...The figures explain themselves. The deceased is introduced bewteen the Thmei, the figure of Truth and Justice, and by them presented to the inferior deities, who superintend the weighing of his actions during life.' The photograph appears to have been taken on a glass rather than a paper negative, and may have been photographed by someone other than Douglas.
