View looking down onto temple buildings on the hillside at Kalabsha (ancient Talmis), with the Nile and the eastern bank beyond: 'Kalabshe is a temple, or rather an assemblage of temples on the left bank of the Nile, about 20 miles above the first cataract. They are in very good preservation. The halls, pillars, and chambers are elaborately sculptured with the usual representations, but the style and execution of the sculptures ... shew them to be of the Roman period. The temples are situated at the base of a range of sandstone hills, which here, as elsewhere in Nubia, approach close to the bank of the river...' The temple was relocated to a new site in 1970.
