Christian graves [near Korosko]. Photographer: Douglas, James
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Landscape Photography
View of graves beside the caravan road outside Korosko: 'The photograph shows the rocky defile and the mound of alluvium in which the four graves have been dug; and by the aid of a glass, the inscriptions on the slabs may easily be read.' The last remark is over-optimistic, although fading may account for the illegibility. The graves referred to are two anonymous headstones, one of a missionary, the Rev. Michael Wurmitch who died in 1856, and the last of an English traveller, Mrs Mary Walton, who had died not long before the arrival of the Douglas party, on 24 January 1861.
