View of earthenware jug, with a design drawn in black outline on a white base: 'The subject represented is a draped female figure spinning. In her left hand she holds up the distaff, while with her right she twirls the thread to which the spindle is suspended. The vase was found at Locri in Southern Italy, but resembles the Athenian fictile vases not only in the monochrome treatment of the design, but also in its naiveté and simplicity. Height, 8 7/8 in.'
