Head-and-shoulders profile portrait of Mosquito Hawk, an Assiniboin. His biography is given in volume 3 of The North American Indian, p.187: 'Susbecha Assiniboin. Born on the Missouri below Williston, North Dakota. When he was fourteen he followed a war-party, but gained no honors. On his next four expeditions he had as little success, but on the next he killed a Sioux. He fought against the Piegan, killing two, taking a scalp and counting a first coup. In another battle with the Piegan he killed one, counted coup, and took a scalp. He never fasted, and never has had a vision. He married at seventeen.'
