Three-quarter-length full-face outdoor portrait of an Arikara woman, holding a knife and a sheave of rushes, with wind-blown rush plants growing in the background. 'The Arikaras, as well as their close neighbors, the Mandan and Hidatsa, made many mats of rushes. These were used largely as floor coverings.'
