General view of this most peculiar building, consisting of two ranges, each with four octagonal corner towers, linked by a central bridge; described in Rosie Llewellyn-Jones (ed), 'Lucknow city of illusion,' Prestel, 2006, p. 60): 'Several of the structures in the Jilau Khana were built purely for entertainment purposes, such as the Lanka, an architectural folly which stood at the south end of the courtyard...The central bridge, decorated with a pair of fish, passed over a small raised pavilion; additional pavilions originally sat on the roof of either wing. The Lanka was destroyed in around 1911 to make way for the Amir-ud-daula Public Library.'
