Mount Hermon, from Rasheiya. Photographer: Bedford, Francis
- Scope & Content:
-
Inscription: Inscribed in the negative, 'Mount Hermon. April 27/62. 93. F. Bedford.'
Genre: Landscape Photography
View looking towards the snow-capped heights of Mount Hermon, with terraced hillside in the foreground: 'The view of Mount Hermon given in the photograph is taken from Rasheiya, a village lying at the foot of the mountain on its northern side, and consequently it presents us with the opposite side of Hermon to that visible from Cæsarea Philippi and the Holy Land generally. This near point of view, in a hollow of the hill-side itself, gives us the long slope of the mountain close at hand, not the conical top which is to be seen from other more distant stand-points' (p. 73).
