Twixt land and water. Photographer: Emerson, Peter Henry
- Scope & Content:
-
Genre: Landscape Photography
''Twixt land and water' is suggestive of life on the Broad. On the grass lies, upside down, the flat-bottomed boat which is used by the Broadman when he goes to fish, or cut the reed and gladdon. The man has just been tarring it, and the shiny surface reflects so much light that it tells as almost the brightest thing in the picture. The long net, which hangs drying on the poles, breaks the horizon between the boat-houses. The road turns out of sight round the pollarded willows, and leads away behind the boat-houses to the village just seen through and over the net. The water creeps over the ground prettily, and forms a valuable line in the picture, leading up the dike, crossing the line of the net, and winding away to the distance.'
