Hand-coloured photogravure. View along the riverbank, with the village and pagoda on the hillside overlooking the water: 'This picture has an unusual interest inasmuch as it represents the locality where the late Captain Plant, ‘The Grand Old Man of the Yangtze,’ resided for many years. The house where he lived was situated above the T’ing Tsu Pavilion (attached to the Miao-Tsu temple to Wang-Yü, the River God). It has since been demolished and in its stead an obelisk stands to his memory.’ Cornell Plant was author of ‘Glimpses of the Yangtze Gorges’ (Shanghai, 1926).
