Papers relating to the Zapple Spoke Word project, divided into four sections:
1) General items:
- two letters from Patricia Slattery, Miles PA at Zapple, 4 August and 6 October 1969;
- two letters from Betsy Klein, Miles PA in New York for the Olson and Weaver albums, undated;
- letter from Peter Asher regarding contract with Apple Records, sent with a postcard from Lewis MacAdams to Peter Asher regarding doing world strangeness poetry with Apple records, 20 January 1969;
- telegram from Peter Asher regarding John Lennon and Yoko Ono requesting Diane De Prima for spoken Apple, 24 February 1969;
- Zapple Records press release announcing formation of the Zapple label, 3 February 1969;
- autograph poem by Freewheelin’ Frank of the Hells Angels, written on a track label from Golden State Recorders during the recording of the Zapple Michael McClure album that he was to appear on.
2) Zapple 03 - Richard Brautigan
Review of the Richard Brautigan album, released on Harvest, from King Harvest Review v 2.1, [January 1970].
3) Zapple 04 - Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Sleeve artwork, intended to be a black and white full sleeve picture of the huge crowd gathered in Havana to celebrate winning the revolution, with Ferlinghetti’s name and the album title superimposed. Includes:
- large (34.5x25cm) black and white photograph of the crowd in Havana brought back from Cuba by Ferlinghetti, undated;
- unused City Lights Books postcard, with handwritten note by Miles on the back 'part of back sleeve collage', undated.
4) Zapple 05 - Charles Bukowski:
Sleeve artwork, intended to be a black and white full sleeve picture of a smoggy freeway with buildings in the distance and Bukowski’s name in large coloured letters on a coloured background at top. Includes:
- set of negatives of photographs of Los Angeles freeways and of Bukowski’s front door, undated;
- two sketches of the proposed sleeve by Miles with descriptions, undated;
- large (33.5x30cm) photographic print of one of the negatives, chosen for the sleeve, folded to size, undated;
- typescript, single spaced, by Bukowski giving a one page biography and bibliography, undated;
- photocopy of cover letter from Charles Bukowski to Patricia Slattery, March 1969;
- letter from John Martin, owner of Black Sparrow Press, 14 March 1969;
- letter from John Martin, 24 March 1969;
- Capital Records shipping form for Nagra tape recorder used to record Bukowski album, 30 January 1969.
