Muzzle-loading, smoothbore, .656in calibre. This is a duplicate War Department pattern piece manufactured at the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield, in 1865, for the Secretary of State for India. An inscription stamped on the side of the butt reads ‘‘Duplicate’ … Fusil Serjts With Heavier Barrel Appd. by S. of S. for India 7/4/65 … 1030/330 … Notified by WO on 10/4/65 … 77/10/204’.
