‘Panthera tigris’
Original inscriptions: ‘Royal tyger. This kind of Tygers is more strength than all the Animals and its nature without Provocation is fierceness and Cruel. No Mercy is to be expected from this Bruit which indiscriminate fury and tears in pieces Every Animals He met with. He is generally known to lurk near the places where He has an opportunity to Chace His prey. We understood that the Tygers in Mysore or the west part Country is 9 feets long from his snout to the tail and 5 ½ feets heigth, but Tyger drawn in this Picture was got in the eastern part of the Country and its Eight feets long from snout to the tail and 4 feet in height but it has been taken when it was young and continually confined in a strongest wooden Cage. The prey which now usually gives to the Animal once a day Twenty seers of mutton at 12 O’Clock in the morning and sometimes the Sickness of Rumatism will frequently happen to it which will be cured by giving 3 fanams weight musk with mutton. If this Animal is eat too much He will be in docility but if it was given a Small prey He will be very anger and be cruel and roar too much.’
