Volume III of the bird drawings from the Wellesley Collection. 19 by 13 inches. 95 ff. in watercolour.
Folios 93-5 are drawings of skins of birds from the 'E. Islands'. Cf. 'G & B' Collection, No.282 and f.95 which may well have been painted from the same specimen. Compare also f.81 and No.213, 'G & B' Collection by Mahangu Lal.
Folio 2, 'Drawn from life in the possession of Mr. Cowper, who told me he has known this Bird for twenty years. When he knew it first it was of the common colour of the Pelican of the Ganges'; f.6, 'Drawn from Life in the possession of Marquis Wellesley'; f.8, 'Found at Chittagong & Bhauglepore'; f.11, 'This bird was bred by Mr. Fombelle, then judge at Bhauglepore, between a hen & a Peacock. The form of the feet was owing to an accident, it having when young been drawn into the fire by an Idle Boy. This account from Mr. Fombelle himself'; f.14, from 'Chittegong Hills. The drawing was taken on the 28th Augt., 1801'; f.66, 'Drawn from Life by J. Thornton Esq.'; ff.77, 84, 85, 87, 88, 'Malacca' (probably by Chinese painters) ; f.89, 'At Goalparah'.
