Original inscriptions: ‘Wild Nutmeg of Canara / Myristica…….Lin: / Ramputraykai……Can:’ [rampatre] / ‘near Honore April 1806’
‘This Tree grows in the Jungle to a great size; after it is come to its growth, in the Month of Chaitra, annually it flowers; it comes to fruit in that month; but green till Vaishak; when it ripens and hardens; the inhabitants then collect the Fruit which they dispose of to the Dyers, at a Rupee a Maund – A red Colour is extracted from it for Cloth &c – The seed when cut resembles the Nutmeg – The leaves are of a dark Green & smooth from 6 ½ Inches broad.’
