Original inscriptions: ‘The Cauchoo Shrub from which the Terra Japanica is extracted / Mimosa……..Lin: / Kyroo or Cauchoo Geedah – Can: / near Honore April 10 1806.’
‘When this Tree has grown to its full size, the bark is taken off & cut into pieces & boiled in water; when the water turns Red, the Bark is then thrown away & the Liquor kept boiling till it takes a thick Gummy consistence which is made into balls & put out to dry; in a few days it is fit to be sold & exposed in the Bazars.’
