‘1. Lékur, the Raja’s house in Lé, capital of Tibet. The history goes that formerly it was merely a place for keeping sheep, which is called Lé, and from which the town takes its name and afterwards the Raja built a palace which is called Kur, and now Lékur.’
‘2. Tsémorachochun. Tsémo’ [rtse-mo]’ means the highest place, and racho’ [rva-cho] ‘means horns, and chun’ [can?] ‘a person: it is applied to the Deota Jigjheth, who has horns on his head.’
‘3. Zimkung’ [gzim-khan]. ‘Zim means a sleeping, & kung a house: it is the residence of the Kalun’ [bkah-blon] ‘or Vizier.’
‘4. Chamba marpo’ [Byams-pa dmar-po] ‘Champa a deota and marpo’ [dmar-po] ‘red (house).’
‘5. Chamba karpo’ [Byams-pa dkar-po] ‘do. do. & Karpo’ [dkar-po] ‘white, do.’.
‘6. Majid, or the musjeed of the Mussulmans.’
‘7. The Bazar of Lé.’
‘8. Soma or (new) residence of the Thannadar of Lé.’
‘9. The bazar where all the people of Balti reside when they visit Lé.’
‘10. Linga sirpa’ [glin-ka gsar-pa’]. Linga is a garden and sirpa also means new.’
‘11. The residence of the Munshi, (Sétun Dorjé.)’
‘12. Guldun séwang’ [dGah-ldan Tshe-dban]’ is the name of a person who came from Lassa and captured Lé about 277 years ago, but the place retains the name of the person, though it is the place of worship of all the people who come from Lassa. Guldun is the name of a Gunpo’ [dgon-pa]’ near Lassa, & Sewang the name of the person.’
Note: dGah-ldan Tshe-dban’s conquest was in 1684, so 277 cannot be correct. ‘177’ would give 1861 as the date for Wise’s note.

‘18. Tok, the jaghier of the present Raja of Ladak, given to him by Maharaja Golab Singh, after he conquered the country’ [in 1833].
‘19. Shelkur, a house of the Ladak Raja, 7 coss from Lé.’
‘20. Residence of the Longpo’ [blon-po] ‘or vizier.’

‘33. Himnya zampa or wooden bridge over the Singhi, tsanpo or Indus.’
‘34. Another bridge over the Indus. The river frozen in winter and passable.’
‘35. A valley called Chungkyum, behind the hills, also a village of that name.’
‘36. Remains of a very old fort. There were said to have been 3 sisters; one built a fort, a second erected 108 chortens, and the third planted the place with trees: there is at this place’
‘37. a hot spring only visible in winter, as in su mmer when the river has swollen it over flows it.’
‘38. Kera - a village; road not passable here in su mmer when the river is very large.’
‘39. Gni - a village - a rock exists here from which are procured famous stones for sharpening knives. et’c. ‘(black).’

‘47. Hanlé gunpa, subservient to the Hi mmis gunpa.’
‘48. Chakpamélin, the name of a Deota in the house: the river here is called the Hanlé chu’ [a tributary of the Indus]. ‘Hanlé is 11 marches from Lé.’
