Inscribed: ‘These 6 pictures represent the customs of the Sumyés [bSam-yas] Gumpa, 30 or 40 miles from Lhasa. There are about 500 lamas in the gumpa, and it was established by Gyalpo Chétong Devtswa [Khri-sron- dehu-btsan:’ see picture 2.no.3] ‘about ......? years ago. The name of the festival here represented is called Do dé Chotpa: it takes place from the 10th to the 15th Assar (June). On the 10th it commemorates the birth of Pudma Gyalpo or Gooroo Rinpochi who was born in Oojain, the lamas represent the eight different forms which Gooroo Rinpochi assumed.’
