‘No.6’
‘1. Shinjhéchétag’ [gsin-rje-che-bdag] ‘Deota’
‘2. Dorjéh Phagmo’ [rdo-rje-phag-mo] ‘(Devi) the same as the Bajésuri Devi at Kang’ [chi?].
‘3. Tsangpa Tongtudchun’ [tshans-pa-dun-thod-can]’ Deota’
‘4. Tumchundozhé Lagpa’ [dam-can-rdo-rje-legs-pa]’ Deota’
‘5. Ekazati’ [e-ka-dza-ti]’ also called Kungkurshamétdozhéchunchik’ [gad-kar-sa- med-rdo-rje-can-gcig]’ Devi. This Devi resides in a large lake called Chomokangkur in the district of Muryul in Tsang.’
‘6. Zhakyub-juk’ [bzah-khyub-hjug]’ in Sanscrit Rahula. Deota’
‘7. Lutudmélto zhichen’ [klu-bdun-mal-gro-gzi-chen]. ‘Devi of the Nags, supposed to reside in a lake from where the river Kichu rises, the place called Mul (?).’
‘8. Tunmachuugni’ [bstan-ma-bcu-gnis]’ (Devi). There are 12 of these Devis.’ [bcu-gnis means 12: bstan-ma were subterranean spirits living in mountainous districts.].
‘There are eight places where Guru Rinpochi is supposed to have buried great wealth called ‘Ter’’ [gter]’ and there is a Deota in each place supposed to take charge of this treasure, and these eight Deotas go by the name of Guritérgag’ [hgu-ruhi-gter-bdag written on plate, but no picture]’ Guri (gooroo) ter (wealth) dag (Lord of)’
‘9. Gyagur achurgoshil’ [rgya-gar not written on plate, i.e. Indian, a-tsar-mgo-hril-acharyas with turbans] ‘There are ten of these, not Deotas, but who act and represent people of Hindustan.’ [Five are drawn].
‘10. Tangtang, people who beat on instruments, or tomtom’ [two figures are.
drawn, one labelled’ btan-btan,’ the other’ sdab-sdab’]’. It is curious to remark how the people of different countries represent sounds: for instance ask a man of Kulu to imitate the sound of a gun and he will say ‘Tem’ and a man of Lahul ‘Dim’, a man of Ladak again ‘Twang’ and a man of Lhasa ‘Ding’. An English musical box in Lhasa is called Piling dranyun. Piling (English) dra (sound) nyun (pleasant to the ear).’
