A woman with a child kneeling at the feet of an ‘Ordbhawn’ (‘urdhvabahu’) ascetic with upraised arm. In the background a temple and river.

Note: This picture is a copy of plate 10 in Sir Charles D’Oyly, ‘Costume of India’ (Patna, 1830). Siva Lal knew several European officials in Patna such as William Tayler, Commissioner of Patna, and Dr D.R.Lyall, Personal Assistant in charge of Opium, both of whom were interested in painting. Siva Lal may well have seen D’Oyly’s book with them and made copies from it.
