Portraits of three villagers standing on a hillside. On the left is Mohan Lal, ‘diwan’ of Nawab Zabita Khan Bhatti. In the centre is Muhammad, a barber, carrying a staff over his shoulder. On the right is a village ‘lambadar’ or official collector of land revenue, called Salotar.
Inscribed on cover-sheet: ‘No. 9’, and in Persian script: ‘nambar shesham 6’ (number sixth 6); ‘Mohan Lal sarauki bagal gaum usiwal bashindar qadim bhitar divan i Navab Zabit Khan Bhuttee hala dar raunieh mibashad’ (Mohan Lal Sarauki Bagal of the Usiwal caste, formerly resident of Bhitar, diwan of Nawab Zabita Khan Bhatti, now living in Rauniah); ‘Muhammad hajam bashindar jaharar sohar’ (Muhammad, a barber, resident of Jaharar Sohar);’ Salotar lambadar qasbah parhari gaum jat musulman bahai bahani he amlah parganah nabhi wallah’ (Salotar revenue collector of the village of Parhari, Jat caste of the Muslim brotherhood, in the employment of Parganah Nabhiwallah).
