The Nawab Mubarak al-Daula of Murshidabad (1770-93) seated in his court with the Resident Sir John Hadley D’Oyly (in Murshidabad 1780-85).
Inscribed below in ink: ‘Water Colour Drawing of an Indian Ceremonial. By a Native Artist.’
Water-colour and body-colour on laid paper, 352 by 536 mm., within ruled black frames with a yellow surround, 403 by 584 mm.
Note: This drawing is similar to Add.Or.3205’, q.v.’. This version has an open view beyond the durbar hall with glimpses of the palace buildings and gateways, and waiting caprisoned elephants.
