Procession of the ‘ta‘ziyas’ during the Muharram festival.
Inscribed below in ink: ‘Water Colour Drawing of an Indian Procession. By a Native Artist.’
Water-colour and body-colour on laid paper, 430 by 771 mm., within ruled black frames with a yellow surround, 499 by 800 mm.
Note: A more expansive version, with additional ‘ta‘ziyas’ as well as Buraq, of Add.Or.3233, with a large tree on the left as in the version in the Victoria and Albert Museum (I.S. 11-1887 (12/49), reproduced Archer 1992, 81).
