Varaha the boar avatar, crowned, jewelled and haloed, strides across a flat landscape as before, his four arms displaying conch, quoit, lotus and mace, bearing on the tip of his tusk the Earth depicted as a cone containing mountains and sky with the goddess within it, the demon Hiranyaksa lying supine below, his arms cut off.
Inscribed in Persian below: ‘hiranacha. baraha avatar.’ On the lower left margin in ‘nagari’: ‘17.’
‘11. 3d. Incarnation of Bishen in the Sut Jog, called Barah Autar or the Hog incarnation, for the destruction of the Daint Hernatchch who had carried away the earth Mirtlok to the Patals. Bishen is represented carrying the whole earth on his tusks.’
