Ganesa, and a mythical figure mounted on a black goose, with a white tiger between them.. Artist(s): Jogendra Chitrakar (fl.1945)
- Scope & Content:
-
On the left, the elephant-headed god Ganesa, red skinned, seated on a stool. On the right, a mythical figure, single-headed, mounted on a black goose. Between them, a white ‘tiger’ with black spots and stripes pouncing on a black-skinned man who falls down across a white bullock with black stripes. At the top small hillocks and four trees.
Note: Subjects unclear. It is of interest however that at a festival of Jom Sim, celebrated by some members of the Marandi clan of Santals in Mayurbhanj (Orissa), two gods whose names were a clan ‘secret’ but whose nearest equivalent were Brahma and Ganesa were impersonated by two Santals after falling in a trance (Mukherjea (1943), 156).
