Inscribed: ‘This church is celebrated for the Synod. Stands in a hot and deep sandy plain. There is an air of desolation and neglect about it. The vestry where the ladder stands was not quite finished - It was an addition to the Building. There is no enclosure. We drank Cocoa Nut milk in the little house’. Further inscription on front: ‘Udiamparoora Church Rom. Cath. Formerly called Diamper and celebrated as the place where the Synod was held by Archbishop Menezes’ [in 1599]. ‘In a hot, sandy soil. Visited on 25 Nov. 1835’.
