Pen and ink drawing of a fragment of a narrative frieze from Amaravati. The frieze is divided into five sections. From left to right:
a. Seated figure holding a cord surrounded by seated ladies. A male figure and dwarf are shown retiring to the left.
b. Two robed figures.
c. A seated figures with a cord wrapped around his waist, being pulled by armed figures.
d. A seated Buddha with attendants performing anjali mudra.
e. Figures with garlands and performing anjali mudra (broken).
The bottom of the frieze has a border of lion faces. A scale has been drawn in pencil at the bottom of the page. An image of the sculpture from which this drawing was taken can be found in Burgess, James ‘The Buddhist Stupas of Amaravati and Jaggayyapeta’, Trubner & co. London, 1887, plate XLII, no. 4.
