Pencil drawing of a fragment of a railing pillar from Amaravati. A half lotus is shown emerging from a decorated border of animals and foliage. The half lotus has four bands of petals. Above the lotus is a row of three scenes. Various figures are shown in each, performing different actions. Above this is half of a broken central medallion with seated figures facing towards an enthroned figure. There is a scale drawn at the bottom of the page. The sculpture from which this drawing was taken can be seen in fig 3, page 12 of Know, Robert, ‘Amaravati. Buddhist Sculpture from the Great Stupa’, British Museum Press, London, 1992 and Burgess, James ‘The Buddhist Stupas of Amaravati and Jaggayyapeta’, Trubner & co. London, 1887, plate VI, no. 2.
